John A. Templeton (1844-1931) was a Confederate soldier in Company I of the 10th Texas Cavalry. He was captured at Chickamauga, Georgia, in late September 1863 and sent to the Zollicoffer barracks in Nashville, Tennessee. He was then transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois, in October 1863 and later released on May 4, 1865. He owned extensive land holdings in Jacksonville, Texas, and surrounding areas.
